Rita Moreno talks about WEST SIDE STORY
In these times of trouble, it’s a good idea to turn your focus to things that, even for a moment, make you happy. For me? That’s Rita Moreno! Below find a Rita Moreno interview where she speaks about her role in the upcoming WEST SIDE STORY movie, which is one of the many theatrical, and musical lights at the end of this gloomy, self-quarantine tunnel.
In this short and sweet clip, Rita Moreno called into SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle show yesterday to promote the upcoming season of her show One Day At A Time. Which you can check out on Netflix right now! In the show, Moreno plays a feisty grandmother named Lydia Margarita del Carmen Inclán Maribona Leyte-Vidal de Riera. Naturally, her character was a dancer and a performer in the past.
The WEST SIDE STORY film comes up, along with how her character in the movie as Doc’s widow was created.
Listen to the interview below!
The film is currently set to release on December 18, 2020. It is is an adaptation of the 1957 musica and has a strong cast including stars Rachel Zegler as Maria, Ansel Elgort as Tony and has an ensemble cast that includes Ariana DeBose, Mike Faist, David Alvarez, Corey Stoll, Brian d'Arcy James, and more.
The film is being directed by the legendary Stephen Spielberg with Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner penning the film's screenplay, and includes the iconic score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim and a book by Arthur Laurent.
After this Rita Moreno interview I'm going to go watch the original West Side Story, and maybe dance along to "America" - how about you?
