Kennedy Center Honors 2015 winners announced
The Kennedy Center Honors are required viewing around my house every year. I set the DVR and I watch it while it airs, because I am that much of a nerd and don't want to miss a moment. If you don't know what the Kennedy Center Honors are, here is what their lovely press release says about them:"The Kennedy Center Honors recognizes the extraordinary and unparalleled talents of individuals whose impact and genius have left an indelible mark on civilization,” stated Kennedy Center Chairman David M. Rubenstein, in a news release. This years recipients to be honored at the 38th annual national celebration of the arts are:
- American rock band the Eagles (am I the only one surprised they don't have their on jukbox musical yet?)
- Singer-songwriter Carole King - who is now the main character in a Tony Award winning Broadway show
- Filmmaker, special effects inovator, and creator of a galaxy far far away George Lucas
- Actress, singer, and Broadway star extroidenaire Rita Moreno
- Conductor Seiji Ozawa - besides being crazy talented, his hair alone deserves an award
- Actress, Broadway star, humanitarian and all around Cicely Tyson
(over the top descriptives are mine)These recipients are people who have strived to create, perform, write, and be the voice of generations as they strived to defy the conventional and persue their passions.. I am not being dramatic people! Look at that list and tell me that not one of those people has done something that you can name off without a second thought. But wait, there's more! This year there is something new in the world of social media and the Kennedy center Honors! The Kennedy Center will launch a contest on social media (#SendMeToHonors) in which one winner will receive two tickets to the honors gala. Check it out hereSo maybe this year, when you set your DVR to record, it's to see yourself in the audience for this phenomenal event! and if you win, remmeber me for your plus one :)Gala will be broadcast on CBS on December 29, 2015 at 9:00p.m., ET/PT.
