Theatre openings, closing, and everything in between this weekend!

I think it’s safe to say that the summer season of activates is in full swing.  Here is a list of what is opening, what is closing, and some fun entertainment options that are still running.  Two options are even outside so you can enjoy the summer weather

DAMN YANKEES at San Diego Musical Theatre

Damn Yankees
Baseball and deals with the devil, sounds like entertainment to me.  This classic musical is a winner of 11 Tony Awards, DAMN YANKEES  is a clever musical comedy about America’s favorite pastime. Baseball fan Joe Boyd sells his soul to the devil in order to save his favorite team. Follow Joe in his journey to save both his team and his soul. Spreckels Theatre, sdmt.org

I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change
Catch this witty, musical comedy about modern love in all forms. This second longest running Off Broadway musical is presented in the form of a series of vignettes connected by the central theme of love and relationships. The play’s tagline is “Everything you have ever secretly thought about dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives and in-laws, but were afraid to admit.” OB Playhouse

San Diego County Fair
This year, San Diego’s largest annual event is themed Where the West Is Fun—celebrating all things Wild, Wild West. Find car shows, animals, games, exhibits, carnival rides, arts and crafts, food vendors, concerts and more. Closed Mondays except July 3, and Tuesdays except June 27 and July 4. Balboa Park After Dark
5 p.m., Balboa Park
The late-night summer event – “Balboa Park After Dark” – makes its triumphant return, running through Labor Day weekend. Enjoy extended hours at museums, food trucks, and entertainment around the park.  See landmarks that you may not know, and potentially catch a show at the Old Globe while you’re there too!

Want something with a touch of darkness as we go into the summer sunshine?  Enter this play full of creepy Victorian steampunk nightmares. Come see how this world and its stories unfold in a silly and sinister way.  Original music and lyrics written by the Tiger Lilies and based on Struwwelpeter by Heinrich Hoffmann , these stories are nothing like Mother Goose.  cygnettheatre.com

The OLD MAN AND THE OLD MOON

This is the west Coast premiere of an incredibly creative ensemble driven musical that tells the tale of  an old man who must abandon his duties of filing up the moon with liquid light to cross the seas in search of his missing wife. ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE

Calling all Parrotheads, this is the musical for you! Featuring f some of Jimmy Buffett’s best-known hits, in addition to new songs written especially for the musical, this world-premiere musical tells the story of a bartender/singer named Tully, who thinks he’s got life all figured out. Then a beautiful career-minded tourist steals his heart and makes him question everything. THE REVOLUTIONISTS
